I have not yet even read this book, which I just discovered recently in the bookstore... but from this review of it, I think I can endorse it! I think I am going to have to have this one!

Horton originally published in 1866 paperback; 384 pages Written by an anti-war Democrat ( that would be a Conservative!) from the State of New York, the opening chapters of this important work chronicle the birth and growth of the monarchical faction ( love that term for the Federalist/ Whig/ Black Republican Left! ) in the United States and demonstrate how it eventually joined itself to the Abolition cause in order to gain political power, seize control of the general Government, and subvert the Constitution and the laws of the country. The remainder of the book chronicles the tragic events and bloody battles of the War Between the States, closing with an admonition to the people of both sections to devote themselves to reconciliation and a reversal of the effects of the Abolitionist revolution.
Good Versus Evil
Frank Conner posits in his book The South Under Siege 1830-2000 ...the following:
The White Southerners do not know who they are, because they do not know who they were.
Their true history has been systematically suppressed, or distorted, beyond recognition. So they are no longer a people.
That 'official' history is actually the propaganda from an unending ideological warfare which various groups of Northern Liberals have been waging against the South ever since the 1830's. Northern Liberal propaganda has become official American History.
THE PHENOMENON KNOWN AS THE CIVIL WAR " CHAT" SITES
The internet offers a variety of Civil War Chat sites. These are curious conversations which take place in a make-believe world called a FORUM, in the which a POSTER is encouraged to LOG ON as an identity, using either an AVATAR ( an icon or a photo of a symbol used to represent the individual poster), or an actual photograph of the individual who is POSTING, or writing comments about certain topics...
These are supposed to be NEUTRAL. If one logs into one of these things, and discusses anything about the war, for any period of time, one comes to the following conclusions:
1. The majority of these things are PRO Northern.
2. They SEE THEMSELVES as NEUTRAL.
3. They AREN'T Neutral. They are decidedly biased, and, if you defend the South, you will begin to notice the SECTIONALISM which divided the nation in 1860. Oh, they will do everything in their power to CONVERT the UNLEARNED and the SOUTHERN NATIONAL... but they will only tolerate HERESY for just so long. Then the SANCTIONS start to appear.
THE SANCTIONS:
Depending upon how EFFECTIVE your RANT (That's what they call it! No kidding!) for the South is perceived as being, you may be sanctioned in the following ways... You will be labeled, first off, with one of the following LABELS; Lost Causer - A modern person who still believes the South was right to do what it did.
Neo Confederate - A person who believes in the South of today, that it should RISE AGAIN politically, and take its place in the political war of Washington Politics, right now. These are two of the NICER TERMS, so we shall restrict our studies to these two terms. The other terms are reserved for the unrepentant, who don't have the insight to quit posting, and leave, once the majority makes up its mind that you are wrong.
Now, keep in mind, you will be offended if you are a follower of Jefferson Davis' life, and an admirer of his trials and tribulations. Offense will come, but you are not allowed to RESPOND IN KIND. Merely supporting the South will get you labeled LOST CAUSER and NEO-CONFEDERATE. Coming back with something Lincoln said, or did, by way of reply, will get you CHALLENGED. This is the next step in the process of SANCTION.
CHALLENGE works like this:
There are many conversations going on, all at once, on these chat sites. They appear as THREADS, or discussions. As a log-in member, you may start a thread, under a topic suitable for that GENERAL DISCUSSION. The Great Heading used to post these threads is the defining factor. You must stay ON THREAD, and post threads which are PERTINENT to that argument. Too often the temptation to stray is there, and get OFF THREAD. Most often, it occurs when you are baited to go off thread, by a remark posted by one of your OPPONENTS. You quickly begin to see who agrees with you, and who does not... NOTE: The North gets an unfair advantage in posting comments, because basically, the old adage THE POLICE DON'T SEE THE COLOR BLUE is true, here. Slamming Jefferson Davis is a national past time on these sites, and Abraham Lincoln is an untouchable. The (Northern Supporter) who starts the OFF THREAD move is not sanctioned, but, rather, the (Southern supporter) who responds to it.... Flash back to Fort Sumter, here: Lincoln showing up with five warships, 500 men, and et cetera. The first punch was NOT thrown by Lincoln, but was made necessary by Lincoln, in order to defend Charleston Harbor...
Effectively responding to Anti-Southern Rhetoric in a post is likely to get the THREAD LOCKED. This prevents any Northerner from being tempted to reply with what they call FLAMES. This is a strong argument in the which the responder is likely to overstep, and say something OFF COLOR, which he may later regret. These people protect their own. Many of these things come out of Ohio, Indiana, and the more 'Out West' Northern states; the real Abolitionist strongholds during the Conflict. These were the ones who got with the 'Eastern' North (the original Yankee states), to form the Black Republican Liberals of the period. But some of these will challenge you as to that LIBERAL label, saying it did not exist in the 1860's. Well, the term Liberal may not YET have been misappropriated by the Yankee Collectivist Totalitarians ( those 1860's Yankees who were not Northern Democrats, Peace Democrats, Southern Sympathizers, Copperheads, and other halfway-decent Conservatives of the period... ) but THE POLITICS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. So if one should call the Black Republican Abolitionist-fueled Totalitarian Socialists by the term LIBERAL, this is not a falsehood. An anachronism, yes, but not a falsehood!
I myself prefer the term BLUE-STATE for the aggregate, and the term RED STATE for the residue of this great land of our's. Of course, the RED STATES of today are not exactly CONSERVATIVES, since that party was outlawed in 1865... but the modern-day Libertarians and Neo-Confederates give them hope that one day, the South Shall Rise Again. The Red states may one day actually be RED, and not, well, you know... (gulp!) Pink! (Red mixed with White, those who are still surrendering...).
CONVERSATIONS are MONITORED by people known as MODERATORS. On Pro-NORTHERN chat sites, they are invariably PRO-Northern in their views, and their REFEREE position gives them power to edit your posts, lock the threads, or have you evicted, entirely.
So, a thread is LOCKED in order to stop a conversation... In this example, the OFFENDER is said to have HI JACKED the thread, and tainted it with off topic information. This is a no-no. A big one. Doesn't matter if you were baited into it... you took the bait. Fort Sumter Syndrome.
The inverse of this is another matter, entirely.
To GENERATE a conversation in a NEW THREAD that is controversial is to risk having it MOVED. That is moderator-speak for having it DELETED ENTIRELY. The title will exist, but none of the comments will be visible... 300 Newspapers being shut down under the Lincoln Administration comes immediately to mind...
Most offenses against Southern posters are not in the form of having THREADS MOVED, however, but in the form of being baited off topic, as described above. Very few Southern posters (those who survive for very long on Pro-Northern chat sites) are in the habit of starting New Threads. Most offenses against Southern posters are in the form of being labeled CONTROVERSIAL, or FLAMING... Most successful Southern posters are men of few words, who answer in period quotes, and don't 'hit' back as hard as they are attacked...
To provoke a ' hostile' reply, if done by a Southerner, is called FLAME-BAITING. To respond to an anti-Southern bit of rhetoric is called FLAMING.
This is the Grand No-No. Even if you are absolutely right about something, (such as Lincoln being the president of the Illinois Colonizationalist Society, and an admitted segregationalist, or discussing Yankee War Crimes) , this amounts to FLAME BAITING, if it goes on long enough.
The strangest things will garner warnings and other forms of punitive citation. The word FARBIE on some chat sites is a no-no. Because it may 'offend' someone... Taking up for the INSTITUTION OF SLAVERY, even as a 'devil's advocate', will bring startlingly vicious responses. The abolitionists have done their job well, over the years, and nothing good can be said about SLAVERY, ever. Not even testimony from modern blacks nor actual slaves is permissible...
Mind, Jefferson Davis can be called anything one wishes, in terse and graphically derogatory language... because this does not 'offend' the right people. So it is acceptable... His writings can be vilified, and his release condemned... but if you posit the idea of 'trying' him on the site, in a moot court, the idea will get kicked around, until it just disappears entirely. No Yankee, even today, wants any of that action... particularly when Greg Durand's AMERICA'S CAESAR and Jefferson Davis' THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CONFEDERATE GOVERNMENT is called into testimony. Davis cannot be tried, even today. One poster on one site, who went by the name BEOWULF, (and who now, curiously enough, has an unexplained "BANNED" next to his name...) actually offered to allow Davis to take the stand, and testify, USING ONLY THE ACTUAL WORDS DAVIS ACTUALLY SPOKE, OR WROTE as testimony... This BEOWULF was going to act as defense attorney, using only words that Davis had written in his defense. What a wonderful way to allow the yankee nation to take all the shots they wanted against the former president... This was what Thaddeus Stevens and Charles Sumner had lusted after, for years...
No takers.
Apparently, the Yankees are still cowards when it comes to proving the crime of Treason against the Confederate President. Or to explaining why he was held illegally for two years, and tortured without cause.
Many of the pro-Southern posters I have talked with in the last few years all have a similar complaint. They get a grand argument in motion, provoke the proper responses, and settle in to weather the fallout... and one day learn that new moderators have taken over the field, and they have been Banned from posting. This is the heaviest form of Sanction which may befall a poster. To be BANNED is to be silenced. BANNED, of course, meaning BANISHED, or BANISHMENT.
Normally, BANNING falls into two categories; TEMPORARY and PERMANENT.
A TEMPORARY BAN can last a short a time as two weeks, or as long as one year. This can be called a Misdemeanor, or a VENAL SIN. Many of the Temporary Bans are for getting out of line in a conversation, 'flaming' and 'attacking' other opinions, or for not being politically correct.
A PERMANENT BAN, or Ex-Communication, is of course, permanent. The name of the poster, his Avatar, and all of those remarks he made will stay on the boards, permanently, but the word BANNED appears next to the name of the accused. (This is akin to being hanged in chains on the docks in colonial times for such crimes as piracy... as a sign TO ALL WHO WOULD A-ROVING GO. It has a very calming effect on the rest of the board, to see an example made, whether temporary or permanent, every once in awhile...
The strangest form of BANNING has to be when one is summarily BANNED in the following manner: You have been BANNED from posting. Reason for the Ban: NO REASON GIVEN. Date the Ban will be lifted: NEVER.
Ex-Communication with no reason given.
From the conversations on this particular site, to which I allude, this BEOWULF has received a PERMANENT BAN...
Strange. The last post the man made was actually agreeing with one of the moderators...
So, for what was he banned?
The post-mortem conversations the others have about him seem to allude to his having upset the majority of the Yankee posters, who otherwise enjoy the site... We can only wonder if his calling their bluff in the TRIAL OF JEFFERSON DAVIS on the site got him kicked, permanently.
Most likely...
I have invented a name for this type of ban that my Southern friends, those who have received such a ban, enjoy quoting:
I call it THE JEFFERSON DAVIS BAN.
I can only assume it would be an honor to receive such from a pro-Northern chat site. A PERMANENT EX-COMMUNICATION BANISHMENT - for NO REASON. NO specific 'crime' was committed, and no one was 'insulted'. No specific incident, at all. Jefferson Davis suffered this not upon his arrest, but upon his release. He went to Canada, and left the country just as Lincoln had wanted him to do... banished.
Eventually, he came back, but he was not invited.
His exile was permanent, even though he returned to the country.
Actual Reasons for Permanent Bans
A few reasons for a Permanent Ban can be suggested, as follows...
1. Bringing modern politics into the discussions. Accusing the American Political System, particularly that of the Second party, of Federalists, Whigs, and Black Republicans with causing the Civil War.
2. Equating the Yankees with the Modern Blue State Liberals, and the Southern Confederacy with the Modern Red State Conservatives.
3. Being a complete and total reprobate to the Union Cause, or 'side'.
4. Saying 'nice things' about Southern Slavery, such as Davis does in RISE AND FALL.
5. Challenging the modern Northern historians as to their findings, particularly those who have been given awards for their work.
The Problem with Modern Politics...
The (white) Yankee of today does not see himself as a YANKEE, but as an AMERICAN. Not as a (white) NORTH American, but as an AMERICAN American. This can be quite offensive to the Central and South Americans who are not WHITE, nor citizens of the United States... because they also think they are Americans... Which, by the way, they are!
The Yankee of today, in his eternal graciousness, has agreed ( and decreed ) to do away with all forms of race ( if one will only qualify one's self as CHINESE-AMERICAN, or AFRICAN-AMERICAN ) ...
The problem with that?
It's a nice thought, but not all of the other races are ready to become EQUAL with us. Certain cultures of the Japanese, and a few other cultures, actually see themselves as being higher and more advanced than Caucasian 'white people'. India has five caste systems, and doesn't want equality within its own structures. They don't want to associate with their own untouchables. How will the wonderful Yankee handle this? Races which refuse equality among themselves?
The Yankee solution is, of course... Modern Liberalism. Collectivism. Totalitarianism. We 'needed' a Union which would be REQUIRED, so the Yankee fought and died for that, for all of us. ABRAHAM LINCOLN or 'Father Abraham', is the father of this nation. In order to effect this, Southern Culture must simply vanish. Entirely. Flags and all... (and especially, all 32 forms of that most annoyingly drawling accent!).
We are now one United States of Earth.
This will not sit well with the American Libertarians, The Conservative Southerners, The Canadians, nor the majority of the world. But the Federal Empire of North America has spoken, using its Left Wing Face.
So Let It Be Written... So Let it Be Done
Until that happens, we shall see Civil War Chat Sites, and their constant struggles to DISCUSS without FIGHTING, which is an impossibility.
Here's the kicker... The Modern Day Pro-Yankee Poster on a Chat Site is more apt to see himself as a Libertarian, or as a Conservative. To associate him with the Liberal Party of Abraham Lincoln and his Whig-Federalists of the 1860's is 'fighting words'. Plus, to speak of politics at all will DIVIDE him from the hard-core Yankees who actually ARE Liberals, or Left Wing Totalitarians. If the Northern Democrats (the Conservatives of the day) and the Radical Republican Liberal Left had not joined hands, the seceded South could never have been vanquished through Conquest. Lincoln's entire thought behind Letting the South up Easy had to do with letting the Liberal Unionist South up easy, and getting everyone else to convert to the new empire. Vote UNION PARTY TOTALITARIAN. The New World Order...
The excuses of FREEING THE SLAVES (stealing human property) and PRESERVING THE UNION (enlarging Liberal North America) are actually the tenets of an empire.
The Conservative South were the Enemy of the United States under its Liberal 'duly-elected' coup of the Lincoln Administration.
Thus, Lincoln's real enemies were not the Confederate Southerners, but the founding fathers of the 'united states' government, and the Constitution, itself. This sort of division is taboo on chat sites, and is not allowed because it divides the Yankees just as Left and Right (Conservative Davis and Liberal Stephens) divided the Confederacy...
It's okay if you want to divide the South over politics (What This Cruel War was Over....), but not the North!
That is taboo.
Here is the truth of the matter...
The war was not North and South.
It was not Yankee and Confederate.
It was not Black and White.
It was Liberal and Conservative....
NOTE: The term "LIBERAL", as used in these writings, denotes a Totalitarian Collectivist Socialist, such as the LIBERALS of today... and not a flower-picking Vegan Hippy ( although, we shall discuss their left wing 'nazism' elsewhere and later...) Please make a note:
Now, true. The Majority of Liberals come from the North. But the North also had its share of states rights Conservatively-voting people, whose voices were snuffed out early... Maryland, my Maryland. West By God Virginia. Parts of Delaware. Whole chunks of New York... Watch THE GANGS OF NEW YORK and see New Yorkers shooting at the Yankee soldiers during the Draft Riots. There is something very satisfying in that scene, for me, as a person. I don't know what it is... These people were called Southern Sympathizers, Copperheads, and traitors, basically... Those who didn't care to go off to war to fight against other people who were also wanting freedom from the Yankee North.
And the South had its Liberals; the ungodly racist UNIONIST-minded slave-owners like Alexander Hamilton Stephens (well-named, BTW) whose Liberalism actually got him an audience with Lincoln before the close of the war... These people would be known, by the end of the war, as SCALAWAGS. A fitting term for them. These Totalitarian "Liberal" left wing slave owners had no Holy Bible (that they were in any wise using) to guide them with their slaves, at all... No, Lincoln's idea of racial inequality had made these people into 'gods' in their own eyes.. They may as well have been up North, with their majorities.
Except Slavery had by this time fallen out of fashion in the North, and the Northern Left was now controlled by the votes of the Abolitionists. So Stephens very grudgingly got the Southern racist Unionist Left to 'go along' with a Conservative Confederate Southern Secession that he would eternally Whine and Harp had cost him his Negroes...
Because, as a Left Winger, he is really only all about the Dollar Bill. And Southern Left Wing Racism kept the blacks DOWN... so they could ALWAYS be OWNED, and SUBJUGATED. Unlike the Conservative Davis, who allowed his negroes to be made fit for their freedom by being made unfit for Slavery, and who allowed his negroes to govern themselves on his plantations... Stephens would not have EVER gone along with any of that...
It might cost him a dollar, somewhere, down the road... All Liberals, Yankee and Southern, fear this thing more than anything else...
The Rise of the Modern Liberal still divides this country into those who want a Land of Freedom from those who see it as a Land of Opportunity... The Liberals, then and now, want the FREEDOM to take the OPPORTUNITY to advance at the cost of another...
Now, the 'Yankees' will claim that THEY were the ones who wanted this LAND OF FREEDOM, but only when they were freeing SOME ONE ELSE'S SLAVES... Again, very free with other people's money...
They really only ever wanted the LAND OF OPPORTUNITY to work their vile craft against We The People, in the collective, and they only worked to abolish when they were also abolishing their political CONSERVATIVE rivals. How noble of them...
This selection of Pro-Northern Chat Sites will not want to discuss, nor tolerate, this thinking and rhetoric - for very long.
