1802: C.S. Major-General Isaac Ridgeway Trimble is born at Culpeper County, Virginia.
1830: C.S. Brigadier-General Laurence Simmons Baker is born in Gates County, North Carolina.
1863: The Confederate government approves General Robert Edward Lee's plan to invade Pennsylvania.
1864: The Battle of New Market begins in Virginia. C.S. Major General John Breckinridge, using a ragtag force that included Virginia Military Institute cadets attacked U.S. General Franz Sigel's line near the north fork of the Shenandoah River. Sigel eventually withdraws to Strasburg.
1867: Nebraska ratifies the so-called Fourteenth Amendment.
